Heartless con artists going door-to-door to exploit residents during Coronavirus lockdown

Solihull Editorial 27th Mar, 2020   0

HEARTLESS criminals are going door-to-door to exploit Warwickshire residents during the Coronavirus crisis.

Warwickshire Trading Standards has received reports of con artists who offer to buy or collect shopping for people who are self-isolating. The thieves then take cash up front and do not return.

They also warned residents to beware of rogue traders who offer to clean drives and doorways to kill bacteria and help prevent the spread of the virus, and people selling fake sanitisers, face masks and Covid-19 swabbing kits which can often be dangerous.

Warwickshire Trading Standards advised residents to not buy goods or services from unexpected doorstep callers, or reveal sensitive information such as bank card PIN numbers to doorstep callers.

Report suspicious doorstep visits or any type of scam to the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133.
