ENERGY campaigners in the region are continuing the fight to keep residents warm in the face of rising bills.
Act on Energy works to support residents across Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Solihull who are at risk of fuel poverty.
The charity, based at Wellesbourne, has recently secured £412,000 of funding for energy efficiency measures through the government’s Energy Company Obligation.
Chief executive Rachel Jones said: “We are delighted to have helped residents with the installation 191 energy efficiency measures of which 114 were for replacement boilers
“This has also provided residents with energy savings of 593,702 kWh and annual financial savings of £25,710 ensuring that residents have warmer and more affordable homes over the winter months.
“With rising energy prices it is important that we reduce our energy costs so we can have affordable but warm homes. This is of particular importance when last year we experienced exceptional cold weather and had a record high in the number of excess winter deaths since 1975 with deaths exceeding 50,000.”
Act on Energy is now looking to help secure further funding to help more households on low incomes to replace old and inefficient gas boilers.
The charity – which has 20 years experience supporting some of the most vulnerable residents with energy issues – also advises both local and regional bodies on energy-related issues from fuel poverty through to climate change.
