A DRUNKEN lorry driver fell out of his cab into traffic on a Warwickshire motorway.

Pawel Kwik was arrested after police were called to an incident on the M6 at Junction 2 near Coventry around 7.15pm on Saturday (January 11).

Police initially thought the 31-year-old from Poland was suffering a cardiac arrest, having fallen out of his cab into lane one of the northbound carriageway.

Police temporarily closed the carriageway while medics checked Kwik.

A police spokesperson on social media said: “It quickly became clear he wasn’t in cardiac arrest. He was actually so drunk he couldn’t stand up. Absolutely beggars belief.”

Kwik was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken to Leamington where he was found to be nearly three times over the drink drive limit.

He was disqualified from driving for 22 months after appearing before magistrates in Leamington on Monday (January 13).

He was also fined £416, ordered to pay costs of £135 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £41.

Insp Jem Mountford of Warwickshire Police said: “We are extremely thankful that no one was killed or seriously injured as a result of this incident.

“Pawel was almost three times over the legal drink drive limit. He not only put his own life at risk but that of everyone else using the M6 motorway on Saturday evening.

“Several members of the public put themselves in considerable danger by stopping their vehicles on the hard shoulder of the motorway to help this man.”
