A COVENTRY canine competitor named Roo and his dedicated owner triumphed in an agility contest at Crufts this year.

Roo, a two-year-old working Cocker Spaniel, and his owner 20-year-old Blyth Fox from Allesley, Coventry won the Kennel Club Medium Agility competition.

They battled it out against nine other finalists at the NEC on Friday March 9.

Proud owner Blyth said: “It just feels amazing – I didn’t expect it to happen and I’m just over the moon. Roo is such a lovely dog and really is a one in a million dog – he works his socks off for me.

“We’re going to complete the season, see how the championship classes go and see what else we can win.

“The best things about Crufts are the atmosphere and the crowd – the dogs pick up on it and it’s just on another level.”

The competition returned to Crufts for the fourth time this year and the final saw medium dogs, other than Border Collies and Working Sheepdogs, competing to win.

The finalists had qualified from the semi-finals at Eukanuba Discover Dogs in October last year.

Blyth, who is currently a student at Solihull College studying animal behaviour and welfare, has never competed at Crufts before, despite coming to the show for many years.

Roo’s official Kennel Club name is Devongem Golden Moment.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club secretary, said: “Very well done to Roo and Blyth for an amazing performance at Crufts.

“Their bond was clear to see as they worked so well together. We would like to wish them the best of luck for the future.

“The ABC Agility competition is a fun competition for owners with different breeds of dog competing in agility.

“Well done to all who entered and took part in the final.”
