Big binoculars offer future glimpse of Shakespeare's home town

Solihull Editorial 10th Sep, 2019   0

CARS banned from the town centre, people living underwater, and more tolerance is how some people see Stratford’s future.

They were among the visions for 100 years ahead given by residents and visitors alike as part of a joint community art project, commissioned by the RSC and the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, called I See the Future, marking the 250th anniversary of the first Shakespeare Jubilee in 1769.

The final results, which even included a Robo Shakespeare, were displayed in spectacular fashion in the town over the weekend when two pairs of giant binoculars appeared in Henley Street and in the Bancroft Gardens – through which people had the chance to see some of the visions of the town’s future.

The project was developed by Anagram, an award-winning female-led creative company specialising in interactive storytelling and immersive experiences, supported by Watershed’s Creative Producers International programme and Arts Council England.

A project follow up event is planned next month at Stratford Play House.
