The Gesualdo Six to perform at St Mary's Church in Warwick

Solihull Editorial 15th Jan, 2018   0

THE GESUALDO Six are already making waves in the choral world less than three years after they formed.

And audiences in Warwick will get a first opportunity to hear them when they perform at St Mary’s Church as part of the Baxi

Early Music Season on Tuesday January 23.

The Flower of the Italian Madrigal programme features works by a dozen composers headed by Lassus, Monteverdi and Palestrina plus Gesualdo himself, a prince, born in Naples around 1560, who caused his first wife and her lover to be murdered.

The group – made up of two countertenors, two tenors, a baritone and a bass – gave their first concert in Trinity College Cambridge in 2014 and since then have given over 60 performances in the UK and abroad, including a number of high profile festivals.

Owain Park, the group’s 24-year-old director, composer, conductor, singer and organist, has worked with the BBC Singers and had an opera The Snow Child, performed at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The monthly Baxi Season at St Mary’s Warwick continues on February 20 when Joglaresa return with a new programme The Enchantress of Seville, and ends on March 13 when The Bach Players perform works for Easter built round the Stabat Mater of Boccherini.

Tickets are available in person from St Mary’s Church gift shop, and the main box office at the Visitor Information Centre at Leamington’s Pump Rooms. Tickets can also be booked online at www.royalspacentreandtown hall.co.uk or by calling 01926 334418.
