Takacs Quartet bring a musical flavour of Vienna to Leamington's Pump Rooms

Solihull Editorial 6th Nov, 2017   0

The Takacs Quartet will be bringing a musical flavour of Vienna to Leamington’s Pump Rooms. (s)

They will be performing programme Quartet in D K575 by Mozart, Quartet in B flat Op 18 No 6 by Beethoven, and Quartet in B flat Op 67 by Brahms – all of which were written in the Austrian capital over a span of some 85 years.

Based in the USA, the quartet has been led by Leamington-born violinist Edward Dusinberre for the past 24 years. The American viola player Geraldine Walther joined the quartet in 2005, and second violin Karoly Schranz and cellist Andras Fejer have been with the quartet since it was formed in Hungary in 1975.

The performance is the latest in Leamington Music’s Investec International String Quartet Concerts season.

Festival director Richard Phillips said: “Having had a sensational start to the season with the Anglo-Dutch Navarra Quartet, our series continues at the highest international level with this outstanding quartet from America.

The Hungarian connection then continues with the Kodaly Quartet coming a fortnight later on November 30. In the New Year we have return visits from Russian and Romanian Quartets before ending in March with the London Haydn Quartet.”
