SILHILLIANS can find out how to help save a life as a leisure centre hosts free CPR training on Wednesday (October 16).
In honour of Restart a Heart Day North Solihull Sports Centre, which is run by Everyone Active in partnership with Solihull Council will be running free sessions led by a qualified first aid trainer.
There will be a number of sessions on offer between 3.30pm and 7pm, each focused on how to carry out CPR and use a defibrillator when someone is having a cardiac arrest.
Led by the Resuscitation Council UK, Restart a Heart Day is an annual initiative that aims to equip the nation with the knowledge and skills to save a life.
Emma Marshall, activity and wellbeing manager at Everyone Active, said: “We believe that everyone should have access to basic CPR skills. You never know when a medical emergency could happen, so being prepared is vital.
“That’s why we’re pleased to be hosting these free training sessions, and we hope to see many people from the local community attending to learn this lifesaving skill.”
The lifesaving procedure can more than double someone’s chances of surviving an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, which affects more than 30,0000 people every year in the UK.
Councillor Tony Dicicco, Solihull Council’s cabinet member for Public Health, added: “The Restart a Heart Day training sessions are a great opportunity for our residents to learn how to give basic first aid.
“Knowing how to give CPR is a vital skill that could help save lives. I’d encourage anyone thinking of doing the training to give it a go.”
Anyone who wants to take part can turn up and drop in to the sessions.
