Smokers urged to take part in Stoptober

Solihull Editorial 10th Oct, 2024   0

SMOKERS across Solihull are being encouraged to join thousands across the country quit for Stoptober.

Quit smoking and you’ll have more money, breathe better and move around more easily. Evidence has shown that quitting smoking for 28 days means you are five times more likely to quit the habit for good.

Join thousands of other people to help your motivation and resolve, and realise you are better prepared to become ex-smokers than you think.

Quitting is easier with support. Anyone who lives in the borough or has a Solihull GP and wants to quit smoking can contact the Council’s Stop Smoking service for free support.

Councillor Tony Dicicco, Solihull’s cabinet member for Public Health, said: “Stoptober is a fantastic time to commit to quitting. Stopping smoking for the month will mean you are five times more likely to quit for good.

“There’s plenty of support out there, including our Stop Smoking service team, the NHS website and plenty more.

“By giving up the cigarettes for Stoptober, you can start your journey to being a healthier and wealthier ex-smoker.”

More information about the Stop Smoking service is available on the SmokeFree Solihull website.

The team can also be contacted by phone on 0121 740 1212. Smokers who want to quit can refer themselves to SmokeFree Solihull using this online referral form.

Alternatively, residents can take part in our Swap to Stop programme, with free four-week vape kits available for adult smokers in the borough.

To register for Swap to Stop, call Solihull Connect on 0121 704 6000 and speak to an advisor, who will send the vape kit out in the post.

There are also a wide range of free online support for smokers in Stoptober, including the NHS Quit Smoking app, Stoptober Facebook communities and advice on the Stoptober website.
