Bollywood and Bhangra heads to Shirley

SOUTH Asian music and dance will being Shirley Park to life this weekend.

Sampad Arts will take over the park from noon until 6pm on Saturday (September 21) and will bring the sites and sounds of Bollywood and Bhangra to the stage.

There will also be the chance for visitors to have a go as Walsall based Ultimate Bhangra host a bhangra dance and dhol drumming workshop.

The Voice’s Natasha Seth will be singing recognisable songs in both English and Hindi.

India Island Academy – a large scale Bollywood dance group – are said to take audiences on an thrilling journey through film.




Devika Rao is due to perform classical Yakshagana routines throughout the day, this group’s dazzling costumes are always eye catching and thier dancing a wonder to behold.

Sohan Kailey will be DJing right to the end of the party, mixing chart toppers with Bollywood and Bhangra beats


Mehndi Artist will also be on hand all day to provide henna artwork on visitors hands with a variety of styles and shapes.

Organisers say there’s no need to book, just turn up.

This event is part of Fresh Air Theatre festival – an exciting programme of events from Solihull Culture featuring free performances from world class theatre, dance and physical theatre companies.
