Transplant cricketers to play NHS staff at Solihull

A SOLIHULL cricket club is hosting an international match with a lifesaving difference.

A team of NHS Blood and Transplant workers will go head onto the field against England and Wales Transplant Cricket for the fourth annual match at Moseley Cricket Club on Sunday (September 22).

And this year’s match coincides with Organ Donation week which raise awareness of organ donation and encourages people to register as a donor.

The England and Wales Cricket transplant team are a team made up of individuals with a common background – they all have received stem cell or organ transplants. Called the “second innings” matches – players feel they have been given a second innings in life to live, work and play cricket again.

Adam Phillips team captain said: “Cricket has brought us all together and transplantation has given us another chance to play the game that we love.

“However transplantation isn’t just about the patient—we want to celebrate with the nurses, doctors and support staff who give all their time and expertise; the families who support the transplantees through thick and thin and especially the donors and donor families– without whom none of this wouldn’t be possible.”

The Transplant team are always thankful for the selfless act they have been the beneficiary of.
