A SOLIHULL care home has launched an appeal for people to send in cards for a resident’s 100th birthday.
Elsie Blissett, who moved to Solihull with her husband in the 1970s, will celebrate her birthday on Wednesday (September 11) at The Priory Bupa Care Home in Monkspath.
The staff say they plan to decorate her room with the cards sent to her where she can read them.
Home manager, Cheryl Harbourne, said: “We are excited to celebrate Elsie on her 100th birthday! We hope to receive 100 cards from our community to show Elsie how incredibly important she is.
“We plan to decorate her room with them, so she can read them and feel very loved.”
The staff are also planning to decorate the home with colourful balloons and banners for the week.
Elsie is also looking forward to seeing her family including four children, 12 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren, who will be visiting from various parts of the country throughout her birthday week.
Elsie was born and bred in Gorton, Manchester.
Following her move to Solihull she was an active member of her local church where she led a number of clubs for children, weekly lunches, and events to raise money for various charities.
Elsie has always been active and sociable with good friends from all areas of her life.
She worked part time at Baddesley Clinton, a National Trust property.
When asked about her secret to a long and happy life, Elsie said: “A good breakfast of bacon and egg every morning.”
Anyone who wants to send a card to Elsie, should post it to The Priory Bupa Care Home, 1 Shelly Crescent, Monkspath, Shirley B90 4XA.
