A CARE company has joined forces with groups in Solihull to educate and support the community during World Alzheimer’s Month this September.
Unique Senior Care, in partnership with the Knowle and Dorridge Memory Café, is offering a series of events to help those living with dementia and their families, including talks and practical workshops.
World Alzheimer’s Month is an annual global campaign aimed at raising awareness and breaking down the stigma around Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and this year the theme is Time to act on dementia, Time to act on Alzheimer’s.
The care company will be hosting a free Dementia Support Workshop for the local community to anyone touched by dementia on September 19 at at Dorridge Methodist Church on Mill Lane.
From 10.30am until 1pm there will be information on cover the different types and stages of dementia, how it affects behaviour, and offer simple, effective communication strategies and tips on how to managing behaviour that challenges helping sufferers.
Throughout September, the Knowle and Dorridge Memory Café, which meets every Tuesday from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Dorridge Methodist Church, will also be hosting several events designed to provide practical support, resources, and information to those affected by dementia.
On September 3 David Rees-Jones from the Alzheimer’s Society will offer practical advice and access to essential resources.
Admiral Nurses—specialists in dementia care—will be at the memory café on September 10 to offer practical, clinical, and emotional support to families, guiding them through the complexities of care planning and the healthcare system.
And on September 24 representatives from Age UK will be available to share insights into the wide range of services they offer, including health advice and social programmes aimed at reducing loneliness and improving overall wellbeing for older adults.

“With lots of events on throughout the month to inform and educate families on dementia and the Knowle and Dorridge Memory Café running each week, we’re here to help.
“Whether it’s offering advice, pointing you to useful resources, or just being there to listen, we want families to feel supported.
