SOLIHULL Police confirmed officers were in attendance at a “mass gathering” in the Hermitage Road area on Sunday (August 4).
The force said: “We were called to Hermitage Road, Solihull at around 8pm after receiving a number of calls from the public about a large gathering involving two groups.
“Officers attended and with the support of the local community, the groups were dispersed.”
It added they were also made aware of a gathering earlier in the day in Solihull town centre.
West Midlands Police said: “We worked with our business partners within the town and would like to thank them for their support. The gathering passed off without incident.
“We will continue to investigate yesterday’s incidents and will take action if any offences are confirmed.”
Councillor Ade Adeyemo, Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Solihull, said: “Like most people in the UK, I am shocked and saddened to see the mindless rioting, violence and intimidation in several of our towns and cities.
“There was a group of protesters in Solihull Town Centre, some of whom were carrying unpleasant banners. Thankfully, the march passed relatively peacefully.
“In this current situation, emotions are heightened and it is imperative that we keep calm heads and not get carried away by divisive rhetoric.
“Here in Solihull, all of our local communities have always lived together in peace. We are stronger together and we must not allow the good relations fostered over many years to be damaged by those who are bent on dividing us.
“In such times, we must work even harder to keep that peace and ensure that every person, whatever their background, can live and work safely in Solihull without fear of violence or intimidation.
“That is why I am working with other councillors and community leaders to put Solihull first and help ensure that the mindless violence, intimidation and destruction seen elsewhere in the country does not spread to our borough.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or via live chat on the force’s website.
