DORRIDGE Cricket Club women’s first team qualified for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Women’s National T20 Cup semi-finals.

Dorridge beat Keyworth by 38 runs in the Midlands regional T20 final and will now play Yorkshire-based side Sessay Cricket Club in the national semi-finals.

Opener Liz Russell (57 not out) starred with the bat for Dorridge while Mariam Khan (30) and Isabelle Watson (29) both chipped in with useful runs as the home side finished on 159-5.

And two wickets apiece from Anisha Patel (2-16), Samah Khan (2-20) and Ellie Phillips (2-27) helped restrict Keyworth to 121-7 from their 20 overs.

Dorridge’s head of women’s cricket, Patel said: “It was a great win and the team played really well. We started strongly with Liz Russell’s great knock helping us to post a competitive total.

“This gave us a great opportunity and we followed it up with a good bowling and fielding display.

“The team is really excited to have won the regional final and we can’t wait for the national semi-final which takes place in early August.

“Last year we reached the national final in this competition and our aim is to do the same again this year.”

Dorridge’s secretary and safeguarding officer, Sanjay Vadher, added: “We’re delighted to see our women’s and girls’ section go from strength to strength.

“Reaching the national semi-final for the second consecutive year representing Warwickshire with a team of talented juniors and experienced players is a testament to everyone involved.

“Dorridge Cricket Club has an ambition to be the beacon club for women’s and girl’s cricket and our on field success will only help to grow the game.”
