Thoughts on food waste collection service sought

Solihull Editorial 16th Jul, 2024   0

SILHILLIANS are being called on to have their say on a weekly food waste collection service.

To help combat climate change and recover resources from our waste, the last Government issued local authorities with new guidance on how waste and recycling should be collected.

Through these recycling reforms (Simpler Recycling), it is said recycling will be easier as all local authorities in England will collect the same materials from every household for recycling.

Solihull collects most of the materials required through existing recycling services, but in 2026 the council will need to introduce a weekly food waste collection service.

To help do this, the team have called in residents for their thoughts and opinions about the changes.

Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, Councillor Ken Hawkins, said: “Along with reusing and repairing items, Increasing our recycling rates and reducing the amount of waste that’s put out as rubbish is something that we can all do to help combat climate change.

“We’re asking residents to take part in our survey so that we can understand more fully how people are using the existing services and if they have any concerns about the forthcoming changes.

“By taking 10 minutes to answer the questions, you’ll be helping us to provide the right level of support and information so that everything goes as smoothly as possible.”

The survey runs until August 16 and is available here.
