Plans for new 700-home community in Shirley revealed

Solihull Editorial 17th May, 2024   0

SILHILLIANS are being called on to have their say on plans to build a 700-homes in Shirley.

Taylor Wimpey has announced plans to create the community, known as Hares Croft, south of Dog Kennel Lane.

The developer say 40 per cent the homes will be affordable and Hares Court will include a new publicly accessible country park twice the size of Shirley Park.

Alongside new homes Taylor Wimpey’s proposals include a primary school, local centre, care home and a village green.

The company added the site will also offer self and custom build plots.

In a statement Taylor Wimpey said: “With flooding being a key concern to local residents, by incorporating a number of sustainable drainage features on site, the development will ensure an overall decrease in the likelihood of flooding in the local area.”

Taylor Wimpey and Richborough have worked together to produce a masterplan for the new neighbourhood as a whole, to deliver the proposed BL2 allocation in the draft Local Plan.

A public consultation has been launched to seek views on both the masterplan and an accompanying planning application.

A spokesperson for Taylor Wimpey said: “We are pleased to be bringing forward our proposals for Hares Croft, a sustainable new community in Shirley, alongside a new country park for existing residents in the area to enjoy.

“We are looking forward to meeting with the local community once again and hearing their views on our site-wide masterplan and planning application.”

Following an extensive consultation last year, the developer is now hoping to progress its proposals and submit a planning application.

Residents are invited to view and comment on the proposals by attending a community exhibition event at The Village Hotel between 1pm and 7pm on May 23.

The plans are also available here – comments must be submitted before May 31.
