Solihull students challenged with physics exam

Solihull Editorial 30th Mar, 2024   0

GIFTED physics students at Solihull Sixth Form College have been testing their abilities with a series of advanced academic challenges.

The year 13’s took on the second round of the British Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad at the end of February, before a further 15 students participated in the Senior Physics Challenge in March.

The problems are far more difficult than they can expect on their A level Physics exams and provided a very significant test to their abilities.

The Senior Physics Challenge involved an hour-long paper with a set of questions aimed at testing learners knowledge and problem-solving abilities.

Rick Homer, physics teacher at the College, said: “I applaud all the young people who took on these papers.

“The questions involved in both papers involve very advanced level Physics and even the most able A level learners find them a significant challenge.

“However, it’s about giving it a go and trying to stretch themselves and the experience will stand them all in good stead for their A level examinations.”
