A TEAM of fitness from Solihull School raised almost £40,000 when the took on the a 42km winter challenge.

The 26-strong team made up of pupils, parents, and staff, past and present from the school stepped out on the Ultra Challenge in aid of two charities, Assist RR UK and IMHO USA, that provide clean water wells for Sri Lanka’s poorest people.

The team, lead by Mark Penney, head of Solihull Prep School, walked a ‘figure of 8’ London marathon in one day.

They started at the Oval and took in the sights of the capital along the Thames pathway before crossing the finishing line 10 hours later.

Mark said: “This is our third ‘Team Solihull’ Ultra Challenge. Whilst the event was physically challenging, the camaraderie and positivity throughout the day was a joy to be part of, and the outcomes are already proving to have been worth every single step.

“The work to significantly enhance paediatric facilities has already begun. It will greatly improve the quality and volume of care for the communities these hospitals serve, making a huge difference to many of Sri Lanka’s poorest children, for decades to come.

“We are so grateful to all those who kindly sponsored us. Yet again the generosity of our school community, friends, family and the supporters of both charities has been extraordinary; it’s been an unforgettable experience for all involved.”

The Penney family and the Solihull School community have supported both charities over a number of years, raising funds for educational, medical and livelihood projects across the poorest parts of Sri Lanka.
