Baby loss charity shines light on Children's Mental Health Week

A BABY loss charity has thrown its support behind Children’s Mental Health Week.

The Lily Mae Foundation, which supports children who have tragically lost a sibling to stillbirth, neonatal death, miscarriage or medical termination, has highlighted how it helps youngsters.

The charity offers Sibling Support Packs that help explain the death of a baby sibling and have a cotton tote bag, story book, notebook, my feelings journal, pencils, pen, pin badge, wrist band, worry doll and photo frame for them to use.

The Balsall Common based charity also run Children’s Play Therapy with its therapeutic play practitioner Matt Haywood to help youngsters understand how they are feeling or help those who are are finding it hard to put their experiences into words.

The Lily Mae Foundation also hosts two Sibling Support Days a year where bereaved siblings meet and take part in activities including indoor and outdoor play, animal feeding and craft workshops.

The charity said: “We believe it is important to highlight the support services we offer to children at The Lily Mae Foundation who have suffered the devastating loss of a baby brother or sister.

“We know that our services support children’s mental health following the devastating loss of a sibling. The Lily Mae Foundation encourages the children that we support to know that their voice matters.

“It is OK not to be OK! Telling someone and finding the right support is the best thing to do. We are stronger, together.”

The charity was set up by Ryan and Amy Jackson following the death of their daughter Lily Mae who was stillborn.

Children’s Mental Health Week, which runs until February 11, aims to empower, equip and give a voice to all children and young people in the UK.

Now in its 10th year, the theme for this year’s awareness week is ‘My Voice Matters’.
