Chelmsley Wood woman jailed for robbing Alzheimer's sufferer

A HEARTLESS Chelmsley Wood woman has been jailed after she robbed an elderly Alzheimer’s sufferer.

Emma Grey, of Arbor Way, befriended the elderly lady and gained her trust, before forcing her way into the house to steal her jewellery.

West Midlands Police said the lady, who was scared and confused, left her flat, locked Grey inside and went to find help.

After stealing two gold rings, the 36-year-old called the concierge to the building in an attempt to help her escape. But suspecting something wasn’t quite right the concierge called the woman’s relatives.

When one of her relatives arrived at the flat, Grey shouted through the letterbox that she was a relative of the elderly lady. Knowing this not to be true, the relative left the building to get signal and call the police.

Grey left the flat before police arrived.

The elderly lady managed to make her way to McDonald’s and seek help from staff there who returned her home.

Grey was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison also handed a ten year restraining order.

Detective Constable David Spencer, from Solihull Police, said: “For months Grey harassed this vulnerable woman for money after befriending her and took advantage of her kindness.

“The woman who is sadly suffering from Alzheimer’s was exploited by Grey who stole two gold rings that were of very sentimental value that have never been found.

“We would always encourage anyone who feels something isn’t right to report it to police.”
