BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees saw their three-game winning run come to an end following a 28-19 defeat away at Southam.

The Bees struck through Oli Nesbitt, PJ Hatch and Deaglan O’Brien at Kineton Road but were unable to come away with a bonus point for their efforts.

And the result means Solihull sit fifth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table.

The game went ahead in freezing and foggy conditions after a late pitch inspection as Southam kicked an early penalty and scored the first try of the game soon after.

Handling errors from both teams disrupted the flow of the game as Joe Davies and Nesbitt both went close for the Bees before the latter touched down to reduce the deficit to three points at the break.

However, after the Bees lost Tom Jones to the sin bin, Southam made the most of the man advantage to score a converted try.

The visitors kept themselves in the contest as Hatch dotted down after excellent work from Cormach Papirnik with Lewis Edwards converting.

Southam scored another try against the run of play to take the game out of Solihull’s reach before O’Brien touched down under the posts with the final play of the game and Edwards added the extras.

Birmingham and Solihull are next in action at home to Barkers Butts on Saturday, December 9 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Portway.
