Line of Duty star visits new roads crime team

Solihull Editorial 5th Nov, 2023   0

A NEW roads crime team has been created by West Midlands Police to deny criminals the use of regional roads in a bid to improve safety.

The ten-strong team will work alongside the wider Road Traffic Unit, focusing on serious crime and improving safety on the roads.

It will also support other departments with ongoing investigations,  making arrests and reducing high-level criminality.

The team arrested four people in its first week on duty, two of whom were wanted for car key burglary and robbery offences.

Actress Vicky McClure, star of crime drama Line of Duty, recently embarked on one of the team’s patrols, where she was shown several tactics officers use to protect the public.

Chief Insp Rebecca Barnsley from the Force Traffic Unit, said: “We understand the impact car crime has on the communities of the West Midlands and that is why it is a priority for us.

“Our Road Crime Team will proactively patrol the road network and target drivers who break the law while continuing to promote road safety.

“We also need the help of the public in driving down vehicle crime. If something doesn’t feel right, always report it to us because your information does make a difference.”
