Cash boost to help find cure for Parkinson's

Solihull Editorial 30th Oct, 2023   0

THE bid to find a cure for Parkinson’s will benefit from a £5,000 grant made by a Solihull group supporting people suffering from the disease.

The money will be used to pursue wide-reaching attempts to find a cure using intensive levels of research into the condition.

Martin Sewell, chairman of the Solihull branch, said: “We were in the enviable position of making the donation and are glad it will be used to raise more hope of making Parkinson’s a disease that can be cured.”

Solihull Parkinson’s has around 300 members who take park in events designed to help keep them more active including weekly exercise classes, walking football, indoor bowling, a singing group and a Parkinson’s Cafe at the Solihull Retirement Village in Shirley.

Claire Bale, associate director of research at Parkinson’s UK, praised the Solihull branch for its “amazing donation” to help make the vital breakthrough needed to cure a disease that could devastate lives.

She said: “We are so grateful to members of the branch for supporting our work in this generous way. Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world and with more than 40 potential symptoms.

“Parkinson’s UK is there for everyone affected by the condition and generous donations such as this will help us to fund research into the most promising treatments.”
