West Midlands police dog cheered on namesake in World Cup

ENGLAND’S Lionesses may not have lifted the World Cup on Sunday – but their impact has left a mark on West Midlands Police which has named one of its four-legged friends after one of the team’s biggest stars.

PD Chloe was cheering the Lionesses throughout their run to their first-ever World Cup final whilst going through the police’s puppy development programme.

The year-old pooch was named after England star Chloe Kelly, who scored the winning goal in last summer’s Euros final against Germany.

The Manchester City forward came on as a second-half substitute in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Spain.

The canine is the offspring of PD Gunner who received a national award last year for helping to hunt down one of the police’s most wanted suspects.

Dave Raymond, dog breed scheme manager, said: “The Lionesses have really done the entire country proud.

“PD Chloe has clearly taken inspiration from her namesake and is making progress with her development.

“She has been cheering on Chloe and the rest of the Lionesses like the rest of us.”
