Two Solihull schools to undergo major regeneration

Solihull Editorial 3rd Jan, 2023   0

TWO Solihull schools will be undergoing major renovation projects as part of a ten-year programme.

Arden Secondary and Our Lady of Compassion Catholic Primary Schools are among 29 in the West Midlands to benefit from the project, along with ten in Birmingham and three in Coventry.

The old facilities will be replaced by modern new classrooms, sports halls and dining rooms.

In total, 239 more schools and sixth forms across the country will be benefitting from the renovation projects as part of the latest announcements.

The new projects follow the 21 rebuilds and refurbishments that have previously been announced in the region, with construction now nearing completion on some of the country’s most advanced sites.

In total, 500 schools and sixth forms will be picked for renovation through the School Rebuilding Programme, with 400 already selected.

These ‘schools for the future’ will be more energy efficient, more winter resilient and will be net zero.

Education Secretary Gillian Keegan announced the latest list of schools at Coventry’s Coundon Court school, which has recently benefitted from the programme.

Since 2015, over £13billion has been allocated to maintain and improve schools in England.

Gillian Keegan added: “Education is a top priority for this Government, and that is why, despite facing challenging economic circumstances, we are investing a record amount in our schools and colleges.

“Today’s announcement will transform schools across the West Midlands and ensure they are fit for the future.

“The additional funding, alongside fantastic new facilities, will mean our brilliant teachers can get on with what they do best – and inspire the next generation.”
