IGNITING teenagers passion for politics was at the top of the agenda at a Solihull Secondary School.

Lyndon School welcomed Julian Knight MP to show how young people can get involved in political causes during UK Parliament Week (UKPW).

The Solihull MP was also questioned by the school debating representatives from Year 9 and 10 on his role as an MP, what decisions he has made in Solihull, how he prepares for a Parliamentary debate and how he responds to questions in Parliament when making speeches.

Other activities included pupils in all years debating whether the voting age in the UK should be reduced to 16 to help their understanding of the role of parliament, and the importance it has to everyday lives.

Abid Butt, principal at Lyndon School said: “It was wonderful to meet Julian and hear his views on what can be done to engage the youth of today on the decisions of tomorrow.

“Our young people listened to Julian Knight so intently, and had many enthusiastic ideas and questions to offer.

“I’m so proud of how they conducted themselves and their commitment to understanding how they can make a difference in politics, even though small change.”
