STAFF and pupils at Solihull School spent a night under the stars as part of a fundraising drive for a homeless charity.

The 69-strong team of fourth form pupils along with staff swapped their beds for cardboard outside at the school’s Warwick Road site raising £5,000 in aid of SIFA Fireside.

The school has also raised £6,000 from a nearly new clothes sale organsied by upper sixth student and SIFA Fireside ambassador Kitty O’Sullivan.

A further £1,600 from a non-uniform day for the charity which supports people in their recovery from the effects of homelessness

The school also donated a van full of food and other provisions from the harvest festival collection to Digbeth for the SIFA Fireside food bank.

Melissa Roche, head of fundraising volunteering and communications at SIFA Fireside, said: “I was delighted to be invited back to Solihull to speak about the work we undertake at SIFA Fireside, and to highlight the importance of self-education on the circumstances around homelessness as well as the need to be kind and compassionate.

“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the school community and are extremely thankful for its on-going support.”
