A SOLIHULL school celebrated its diverse community by hosting a Diwali “Festival of Lights” evening open to school members and the local community, as part of a series of events to mark the religious festival.

The event, hosted at Ninestiles, part of the Summit Learning Trust, held on October 21 and involved a presentation to educate on the purpose of Diwali, a talk from a committee member of the local Guru Nanak

Gurdwara and traditional food, song and dance performed by students and community members.

Mohammed Hussain, a geography teacher and organiser of the Diwali celebrations said: “The evening was a great success and a true celebration and representation of the diverse cultures and religions within our community.

“We at Ninestiles believe in strength through diversity, and it’s fantastic to see our students embracing and educating themselves on Diwali and the Hindu, Jain and Sikh faiths.”

Alex Hughes, principal of Ninestiles, added: “I can’t thank the students and staff at Ninestiles enough for their fantastic contributions to our Diwali celebrations, and of course to all community members who worked so hard to ensure the evening was a triumph.

“Embracing diversity is at the heart of our school ethos, meaning the inclusion of all faiths and cultures practiced within our community. We care deeply about our all our children and their families, and this celebration truly reflects our efforts.”
