RUGBY UNION - Bees beaten for first time at Coventrians

BIRMINGHAM and Solihull RFC suffered their first defeat of the season as the Bees were beaten 18-12 in a close game against Coventrians RFC.

PJ Hatch crossed twice for the Bees whilst Lewis Edwards added a conversion but the Solihull club were unable to strike late on as they lost a league match for the first time since November 2021.

The result means the Bees drop to second in the Counties 3 Midlands West (South) table and trail leaders Rugby Welsh by just two points.

Coventrians raced into a 10-point lead before Hatch crossed for his first try of the game after some sustained pressure on the home side’s line.

And Bees were rewarded for a strong start to the second period when Hatch pounced on a Coventrians mistake to race almost the length of the pitch for his second try with Edwards adding the extras.

This handed the Solihull club a slender two-point lead only for Coventrians to be awarded a penalty try from a driving maul.

Bees were camped on the Coventrians line for the final quarter of an hour but could not find a way through to suffer their first defeat of the season.

Birmingham and Solihull are next in action at home to Harbury on Saturday, October 22 with kick-off at 3pm at Portway.
