RUGBY UNION - Bees buzzing after big win against Chaddesley Corbett

BIRMINGHAM and Solihull RFC ran in seven tries as they dismantled Chaddesley Corbett to secure a 50-14 victory and remain top of the table with a fifth successive win.

Lewis Edwards starred with a 25-point haul whilst Liam Dunne crossed for two tries with Tom Fleming, Deglan O’Brien and Jake Hendon also dotting down in front of over 200 supporters.

The result means the Bees sit top of the Counties 3 Midlands West (South) table having taken a maximum 25 points from their opening five matches this season.

And despite a number of mistakes plaguing the early exchanges, the Bees moved the ball well through the hands which allowed prop Fleming to touch down with Edwards adding the conversion.

The Bees enjoyed some sustained pressure on the Chaddesley line and were rewarded when Dunne powered over from a close range penalty with Edwards again successful from the kicking tee.

On the stroke of half time, the home side extended their lead when Edwards scored a fine solo try as he blitzed and side stepped his way past several defenders to hand the home side a 19-0 lead at the break.

However, straight from the restart, Chaddesley responded with a converted try under the posts as the Bees were punished for a pair of missed tackles.

That try sparked Solihull into life as O’Brien outpaced the Chaddesley defence with his first touch on his league debut to score under the posts having run from inside in his own half with Edwards converting.

A long-range penalty from Edwards extended Solihull’s lead before Dunne grabbed his second of the afternoon which was quickly followed by a debut try for Hendon both of which were converted by Edwards.

And Edwards rounded off a stunning 25-point individual haul with his second try late on as he darted over from close range before Chaddesley were awarded a penalty try on the final whistle.

The Bees play Camp Hill away from home in a friendly next weekend before returning to league action against Coventrians on Saturday, October 15 with kick-off at 3pm at The Black Pad.
