RUGBY UNION - Bees continue perfect start with Upton win

BIRMINGHAM and Solihull RFC maintained their perfect start to the season with a 27-14 bonus point win against Upton-on-Severn despite playing with a depleted squad.

PJ Hatch scored the Bees bonus point try having opened the scoring early on with Ryan Sleaford and Liam Dunne also touching down at Banwell Park.

The result means the Bees now lead the Counties 3 Midlands West (South) table by four points having secured three successive bonus point victories at the start of the campaign.

And the Bees made a rapid start as Hatch, playing out of position, found space out wide and finished in the corner after just two minutes with the try converted by Sleaford.

The visitors scored again soon after as Sleaford crashed over for the Bees second try with Lewis Edwards adding the extras.

Solihull were forced to defend for the majority of the half as Upton reduced the deficit with their first try before Edwards kicked a penalty.

And captain for the day Dunne then barged his way over the line on the stroke of half time, following a number of phases, to send the Bees into the break with a 22-7 lead.

Solihull grabbed their bonus point try when Hatch raced over in the corner to finish off an excellent move and score his second try of the afternoon.

Upton scored a converted try on the final whistle to put some respectability on the scoreline as Solihull continued their unbeaten start.

The Bees are next in action against away at local rivals Birmingham Exiles on Saturday, September 24 with kick-off at 3pm at Old Damson Lane.
