RUGBY UNION - Bees stun Bedworth with impressive comeback win

BIRMINGHAM and Solihull RFC overturned a 14-point deficit to beat title challengers Bedworth 36-24 in their first home game of the season.

Ryan Sleaford crossed in either half for the Bees with Cam May, Ollie Sanderson and Adam Trombley also touching down whilst Lewis Edwards added 11 points from the kicking tee at Portway.

The bonus point win means Birmingham and Solihull sit top of the Counties 3 Midlands West (South) table after two matches.

And Edwards kicked the Bees into an early lead only for Bedworth to level with a penalty of their own before scoring two converted tries.

However, Solihull’s young side responded when May scored under the posts before Sleaford grabbed his first try of the game after he collected Edwards’ delicate chip through before running 25-yards to the line.

Edwards kicked both conversions to send the teams into the break tied at 17-all.

And the Bees picked up where they left off in the second period when Sanderson scored a superb try as he ran half the length of the pitch having received Jonnie Mills’s long pass with Edwards adding the extras.

Bedworth hit back with a try of their own after some sustained pressure on the Solihull line.

The game was finally put to bed when Trombley powered over and Sleaford scored his second of the afternoon in the final five minutes to seal an impressive bonus point victory.

Birmingham and Solihull are next in action away at Upton-on-Severn on Saturday, September 17 with kick-off at 3pm at Banwell Park.
