Solihull carers charity is calling out for volunteers

Solihull Editorial 13th Sep, 2022   0

A SOLIHULL charity is calling out for residents to volunteer to help local carers.

Carers Trust Solihull is setting up a new service  funded by The National Lottery.

The Sitting Service aims to place volunteers in the homes of carers who will sit with the cared for person for an hour or two so that the carer can take a break, go out to the shops, take a walk in the park, whatever pursuit they fancy, knowing that their cared for person is safe.

Helen Pitt coordinator of the project said: “We already know from the several thousand carers who are registered with our charity, how very much this project is needed, but we can’t progress it without the help of volunteers.

“We think one of the reasons why we have found it difficult to attract new enquiries may be to do with the Commonwealth Games who recruited five thousand volunteers across Birmingham and Solihull.

“Caring for someone brings its challenges, many of our carers hardly ever leave their home and life can become very lonely.

“We offer a really interesting training and if you already have experience of looking after someone with a mental health issue, dementia, or a physical disability then your experience would be especially welcome.”

If you think you have what it takes to join the pool of volunteers then please call Helen on 0121 828 8852.
