Solihull mosque applies for temporary marquee to remain in place

Solihull Editorial 13th Jul, 2022   0

A SOLIHULL mosque has applied for a temporary marquee to remain in place so worshippers can continue to attend if Covid infections rise and restrictions are re-introduced over the winter months.

A planning application has been handed to Council chiefs for retrospect permission to have the marquee at Sandalls Cottage on Warwick Road and to keep it up for another year.

The marquee was put into place to provide a safe area for people to pray socially distanced during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In planning documents written by Made Architcture it says: “It is unknown how the pandemic situation will progress into autumn and winter as this is generally the peak time for infection levels to begin rising again.

“Should infection levels rise again and social distance rules be re-introduced in winter 2022, the marquee will be a crucial space to have, to allow all worshippers to attend their local place of worship and pray safely.”

The documents added that worshippers range in all ages and underlying health conditions, therefore it is imperative for the premises to provide adequate and safe provisions for people to visit and pray.

Solihull Council said the deadline for comments on the application in July 15.
