A RETIREMENT village that stands on the former Powergen site in Shirley has been shortlisted for a top award.
The ExtraCare Solihull Retirement Village has made is a finalist in the Best Older People Housing Development – Urban category at this year’s Inside Housing Development Awards.
The awards celebrate the best in residential development across the UK and the Shirley site is up an award that recognises homes for older people that are well designed to meet current and future care and support needs.
The Powergen office buildings had been empty for over 20 years and Solihull Council had been seeking regeneration of the site for many years.
Winners of the Inside Housing Development Awards will be announced at a special ceremony in London in September.
A statement by ExtraCare said: “The site was the perfect choice to align with ExtraCare’s mission of creating sustainable communities that provide homes older people want, lifestyles they can enjoy and care if it’s needed.
“It is not just the design that ensured the village’s place as a finalist, it is a beautifully crafted location with a range of facilities.”
