Solihull's Marie Curie hospice calls for volunteers to help Great Daffodil Appeal

MARIE Curie says it is in urgent need of help from kind-hearted Sihillians.

As the first daffodils of the year begin to bloom, the end of life charity, which has a hospice on Marsh Lane, is calling for volunteers to collect for its Great Daffodil Appeal.

This March, just two hours handing out daffodil pins in return for a donation can help more Marie Curie nurses be there for people living with illness.

Volunteers will be supporting the charity’s annual flagship fundraiser which has been forced to cancel its public collections for the past two years due to the pandemic.

This year collections are going ahead across the borough and Marie Curie is appealing for new and existing supporters to come forward and show their support.

Amy McNaughton-Brown, fundraising integration lead at the Solihull hospice, said: “We’re so excited that this year we’ll be dusting off our big yellow hats and getting back out there again to host our much-loved collections.

“We can’t do this alone, though. We rely on volunteers to donate their time to help us raise as much money as we can so that we can continue to work across Solihull and Birmingham and ensure Marie Curie is there for terminally ill people and their families in their final days, weeks, months.

“Not only will the money support our staff to provide expert hands-on care, but will also fund our family teams to provide much needed emotional support to patients and their loved ones.”

Last year Marie Curie provided direct support to more than 69,000 people – a 15 per cent rise on the previous year.

Donations support Marie Curie’s nurses and the charity’s information and support line, which provides a listening ear to anyone dealing with death, dying and bereavement.
