A SOLIHULL businessman was left inspired after finding out the vital work needed to train a Guide Dog.

Elliott Robinson, who runs oven valeting company Ovenu Solihull, was given an idea of what life is like for someone who relies on a guide dog at the company’s annual conference.

George Upfield, who was left visually impaired after suffering a childhood brain tumour spoke at the conference.

He was accompanied by his guide dog Yoko and spoke about his voluntary work at the Guide Dogs and the many aspects of its work and thanked everyone for their generous donations and puppy sponsorship.

Last year Elliot donated funds to help Selsey through her training to become a fully qualified guide dog.

Selsey – a black Labrador who has six siblings Cosmo, Peegee, Dougall, Polly, Jessie, and Billy – has been placed with a puppy raiser who will start to teach her the skills essential to become a future guide dog.

Elliot said: “George’s talk was inspirational and really brought home how important it is to sponsor the training of puppies like Selsey.

“Guide Dogs offer life-changing independence and freedom to people living with sight loss.

“However, it’s more than just mobility, because the companionship of a guide dog also brings positive psychological and social effects.”

Ovenu has also set up a Just Giving page for donations to Guide Dogs, to donate click here.
