FOOTBALL - 10-man Moors maintain play-off push with Yeovil stalemate

SOLIHULL MOORS stretched their unbeaten run to five matches after they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw against Yeovil Town.

In-form striker Andrew Dallas was unable to add to his impressive recent tally whilst defender Jordan Cranston was sent off for Moors late on.

The result means Solihull sit sixth in the National League table, four points clear of the teams outside of the play-off places.

Moors made a fast start and had the first chance of the game when Callum Maycock was kept out by Grant Smith from Dallas’ cutback.

And Solihull created another opening soon after when Cranston’s dangerous ball to the back post was diverted wide by James Clarke.

Moors midfielder Joe Sbarra then flashed a header wide after good work from Maycock down the right.

However, Solihull goalkeeper Ryan Boot made a superb save to keep the scores level at the break when he spread himself to keep out Charlie Wakefield’s effort with his legs when one-on-one.

Neal Ardley’s side had another headed chance after the break when Danny Newton headed into the gloves of Smith from Sbarra’s looped ball.

Moors best chance fell to Newton when he was played in-behind by Sbarra before rounding Yeovil keeper Smith and firing into the side netting.

And Maycock then saw an effort heroically blocked by the home defence from Cranston’s dangerous corner.

The home side still caused problems for Moors at the other end when Boot had to be alert to deny Wakefield at his near post.

Cranston then lashed a shot narrowly wide before picking up two bookings in the space of three minutes to receive his marching orders in injury-time.

Solihull are next in action away at Stourbridge on Saturday, February 12 in the fifth round of the FA Trophy with kick-off at 3pm at the War Memorial Athletic Ground.
