A SOLIHULL teenager has been offered a seat with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO).
Gemma Winfield, from Monkspath, will be picking up her clarinet alongside hundreds of others youngsters when she performs at the Barbican in London during the 2021 to 2022 season.
The Solihull School pupil resident has played for eight years.
The NYO is one of the world’s most celebrated platforms for young musicians to develop and achieve precocious high standards.
The 15-year-old said: “This has been a dream ever since I first saw the NYO perform in the Warwick Arts Centre. I have been buzzing with excitement ever since I received the news.
“I am so excited for all the upcoming courses and especially meeting new musicians and playing challenging music in incredible venues such as the Barbican in London.
“I am looking forward to playing with people who share the same passion as me.”
As part of her role in NYO this year, she will be working alongside hundreds of other teenage musicians to open up orchestral music and share it with young people across the UK.
There will be performances at the Barbican in London and Warwick Arts Centre in January.
