INTERNATIONAL class bowlers arrived in Solihull last week when the Malaysian national team visited Solihull Indoor Bowls Club.

The team were there to take advantage of the fantastic facilities at the Brick Kiln Lane club to start acclimatising ready for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

“About a dozen players and coaches spent three days with us,” said Paul Rees, one of the directors of the club.

“We had a call from the English Indoor Bowling Association a few weeks ago asking if we could help and of course we said yes without any hesitation.

“Indeed we want to encourage everyone to come to Solihull Indoor Bowls Club.”

The club is one of the largest in the UK and boasts eight rinks which meant the Malaysian team could be given the freedom to play with the minimum of fuss.

While over here team managers also looked at accommodation options ready for when the games begin.

“Having the national team here was of course beneficial to our own players,” said Paul.

“We have fantastic facilities at the club with a kitchen, bar and function room.

“As well as being a bowls club we also see ourselves as a facility for the entire community.

“We have Solihull walking football next door who are very active and it’s been great to showcase everything we have here.”
