MPs in call for evidence in drive to regenerate the West Midlands

Solihull Editorial 6th Aug, 2021   0

MPs from across the West Midlands have re-launched a call for evidence into strategic planning and infrastructure.

Their aim is to develop ideas to boost regeneration and economic growth across the region.

Working as part of the West Midlands All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), a cross-party informal group, the MPs will be writing to businesses and organisations to ask for their expert views and ideas for reform.

The inquiry was originally launched in 2019, but was originally delayed due to the General Election and later postponed due to Covid-19. As there are many new considerations two years later, it was decided that the call for evidence should be re-launched to better understand and reflect changes both regionally and nationally.

Those MPs involved with the APPG have said they want to be at the forefront of any changes, and ensure that they deliver long-term, sustainable benefits and grow local economies across the region.

The inquiry focuses on three key themes in its questions: Collaboration in the West Midlands, Traditional and Innovative Infrastructure and Delivering for the West Midlands.

It will consider the barriers and limitations to development within the region, as well as the potential of growth offered by already existing infrastructure.

Other considerations of the inquiry will include balancing the housing demand with protecting the greenbelt, speeding up the delivery of approved developments and the impact of Covid-19 to the opportunities of stakeholders.

The West Midlands APPG is asking for written evidence to be submitted to the inquiry by September 19, 2021. Submissions should be sent to [email protected] .
