VETERANS in Solihull flew the flag and put up the bunting to mark Armed Forces Day.

Residents at the Royal Star and Garter Home, which cares for veterans and their spouses living with dementia or disability, also reminisced with staff and read war poetry.

Armed Forces Day, which took place on June 26, supports the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.

The Tudor Coppice care home was decorated with balloons and bunting and veterans baked red, white and blue cupcakes and enjoyed craft sessions.

They also enjoyed a concert from vintage vocal harmony group Boogaloo Babes.

Major General Tim Tyler, the Royal Star and Garter chair, said: “This is an important day for everyone at Royal Star and Garter.

“It is a time to pay tribute to those who have served and continue to serve our country, and to remember the sacrifices that they and their loved ones have made.

“Despite the impact of the pandemic, we have still been able to gather to reflect, remember and thank our nation’s military family.”
