Shirley care home marks Greek Independence Day

A TOUR of a Greek Island and a feast was on offer for residents at Fountains care home as they celebrated Greek Independence Day.

Staff at the Shirley home hosted a day of Greek inspired fun started with a tour of Santorini which inspired a a reminisce session for residents and staff alike on March 25.

Residents made Gold leaf Greek crowns – traditionally worn to Toga parties. Everyone enjoyed the craft session and personalising their own crowns before heading to lunch.

For lunch the dining area was transformed into a Greek Taverna with classic Greek music, wine and a themed menu created by the kitchen team: courgette and feta fritters to start, followed by a Greek salad with Tzatziki and roasted vegetables.




Dessert was Revani which is a Greek semolina cake.

After lunch, some traditional Greek dancing was enjoyed in the cinema room and everyone was in awe of the talented dancing and there was a lot of clapping and dancing along to the music.


Sonia Tenniswood, general manager at Fountains Care Home said: “In these unprecedented times, providing a range of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities for our residents is more important than ever.

“Our residents really enjoyed celebrating Greek Independence Day. “
