DESPITE the suspension of group-walking, members of the ‘Wednesday Walking Club’ of Shirley, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, were recently able to send a donation totalling £558 to Parkinson’s UK, courtesy of their annual charity draw:- ‘Charity Not Cards @ Christmas’.
Last December the choice of charity was ‘won’ by Brian Johnson, who then had the responsibility of making the collection on behalf of his choice.
The Ramblers-affiliated walking group is limited to 40 regular walkers, most of whom are seen walking in better times three Christmases ago, and since idea’s inception in 2006 it has resulted in over £3,500 being raised for local and national charities by the club.
