Call to community to help re-shape village for the future

Solihull Editorial 2nd Jan, 2021   0

AN urgent appeal for volunteers to help shape the future of the centre of Balsall Common has been issued.

It comes from Councillor Andrew Burrow, who sits on both Berkswell and Balsall Common Parish Councils.

The two authorities are helping to shape a master plan, along with Solihull Borough Council and developers ARUP for the public areas of Balsall Common centre, both to improve it but also to make it fit for the expanded Balsall Common predicted in the Solihull Plan – the village is earmarked to take an extra 2,000 new homes over the next 15 years.

The planning phase is to produce a vision and layout drawings for the centre which is expected to be ready by the autumn.

However the input of the community is seen as vital to help shape the plan, and the plan is to do this through a series of online Zoom group sessions during January.

“These will be about 2-hours long and led by an ARUP consultant,” said Coun Burrows.

“We really need some volunteers aged 16 to 50 to supplement other residents who we can invite via a wealth of community organisations. “Young people setting out on life, parents with children at school or just single/couples. We need a mix.

“Just two hours of your time to help us build our community for the future.

“If you can help, or know anyone in that age range, then please can you volunteer or get them to volunteer. If nothing else, it will make a break from other lockdown activities!”
