Marie Curie Hospice receives cash boost from house builder

Solihull Editorial 24th Dec, 2020   0

THE Marie Curie Hospice in Solihull has been selected to receive funding from leading housebuilder Persimmon Homes South Midlands.

The charity has secured £900 from its community fund to help meet the costs involved in delivering the vital support its specially trained volunteers and nurses provide, including overnight care to patients.

The charity’s team of nurses has continued throughout the Covid 19 crisis to deliver overnight care to patients in their own homes from 10pm to 7am alongside the practical information, support and simply the chance to talk for people at a time when people need is most.

Clare, one of the nurses providing overnight care, said: “Families are very grateful that we’re still coming in overnight, because they don’t want their loved ones going into hospital due to the coronavirus risk.

“They’re grateful they’re still getting the support that they need at the end of life.”

Kate McGrory, local community fundraiser at Marie Curie said: “We are so grateful for this amazing donation from Persimmon Homes South Midlands.

“We rely on support like this to ensure Marie Curie nurses on the frontline can continue their important work supporting people and their families in their own homes.”

Each month the Studley-based builder donates up to £1,000 to two community groups across the region.
