Saqib Bhatti quizzes PM on Tier Two lockdown status for Meriden

MERIDEN MP Saqib Bhatti has asked the Prime Minister to work to get Meriden out of its tier two ‘High’ restrictions as soon as possible.

His move came after it was announced that the whole of Solihull Borough will be subject to Tier Two restrictions, from midnight tonight, Tuesday, October 13.

Mr Bhatti (pictured) used an opportunity after the Prime Minister’s statement on new Covid-19 restrictions to ask him to commit to getting the people of Meriden out of tier two restrictions as soon as possible.

He asked the Prime Minister: “My constituents in Meriden have worked really hard to comply with the guidelines and I’m sure they will adapt to this new tiered system to protect the NHS and keep the rate of infection low.

“But because they’ve worked so hard, will the Prime Minister commit to working to review and get them out of Tier Two as soon as possible? Because they’ll be doing their part and they deserve this.”

In reply, the Prime Minister said: “Yes, I’m aware of the feelings in the Midlands and around the country.

“And I can tell the people of Meriden that of course we want to get them out of any kind of restrictions as fast as we possibly can.”
