Only six mourners permitted at funerals as Solihull bereavement services scaled back

INTERNMENT of ashes and memorial permit grants at Solihull cemeteries have been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Solihull Council has said it will ensure funerals can still go ahead at the borough’s cemeteries, but new rules allowing only six mourners are now in place.

Funerals can now only be attended by immediate family members.

In a statement, Solihull bereavement services said: “The Prime Minister announced on Monday March 23 that all social events must now be stopped, excluding funerals (which can only be attended by a maximum of six mourners, from the immediate family), in order to help reduce the spread of coronavirus.

“In light of this, Solihull Council’s cemetery grounds are currently open – however the waiting rooms, Book of Remembrance rooms and memorial rooms are all closed.

“Memorial sales, memorial headstone permitting, buying graves in reserve, scatterings and cremated remains interments are all suspended until further notice.”
