Solihull school nurses available by phone and Instagram during coronavirus pandemic

SCHOOL nurses in Solihull say they are just a phone call away for children with health problems or anxiety during the coronavirus pandemic.

Though schools across the borough are now closed to help stop coronavirus spreading, the 29 nurses who usually visit Solihull schools are still working to keep kids healthy.

With a Facebook group fb.com/solihullschoolnurses, and a phone bank – 0122 770 1919 for north Solihull, 0121 726 6754 for south Solihull, advice is there for healthy lifestyles at home.

Children can phone the nurses with any health concerns, coronavirus-related or not.

Keeley Shepherd, a nurse who helped found the groups, said: ” We are all working remotely and we are there to help – we hear from kids with normal teenage health concerns, mental health worries, and some are understandably worried about the coronavirus and their vulnerable family members.

“They can’t go and visit grandparents, and they want to keep their families safe.

“The groups are also for the parents, as they often ask how to support their children whilst they’re not at school.

“The kids are missing out on pastoral care from school and parents are having to take that on as well.

“It’s important for families to keep active, keep exercising, as that will help with mental health.”
